Out of the ten league games Wolves have played so far this season, in my opinion, only the Watford game is the one where i think we deserved to take nothing from. Yesterday's performance from the Wolves players was a much improved one from the Watford game. From a Wolves perspective it's our finishing and lack of goals that's letting us down. Chances are being created, on another day, Doherty, who in my eyes, was our man of the match, could easily have scored a couple of goals.
Wolves for me controlled a lot of the game, the contrast in styles of both sides was there for all to see. Brighton tried to play Wolves on the counter-attack and also get the ball to Murray as quickly as possible. Wolves played the passing game that we have all got used to seeing week in, week out. Brighton wouldn't have had any complaints if Wolves had gone in at the break a goal up, Doherty for me was our best attacking threat in the half and he wasn't too far away with his effort that went just wide of Ryan's near post. I'd love to know what the ref's thinking was after another Doherty effort was handed by a Brighton player. It's easy to say now after the event that i've seen them given.
After being unchanged for our first nine league games i was expecting changes for this one, Traore in for Jota was the only one. Bar a couple of runs, i don't think Traore got into the game that much. I wasn't happy with the manner that we conceded the goal, you don't leave any striker on his own in the area, and i don't think Murray will score an easier goal this season. Going forward Wolves looked better once Jota and Cavaleiro had come on. I also think Costa improved after the introduction of the two, before that, just like Traore, nothing was coming off for him.
Chances again were created, Doherty again going close at Ryan's near post, also the Bennett effort that the keeper made a one handed save. It's all if's and maybe's in football. Some of our other chances just went straight at Ryan, the free-kick from Neves headed over and also the holding on Boly in the area. Ref's need to be more vigilant. I'm not using it as an excuse at all. It only takes the one chance to score and win a game, as was with Murray's.
I'm a big fan of the way we play and also Jiminez, he works his socks off and strikers are often judged on the goals they score, but he is living off scraps. At times our crosses into the box were too predictable and gathered easily by the keeper or cleared away by either Dunk or Duffy at the back for Brighton. Our corners have to improve.
We may have lost again, but quite a few positives can be taken from this game.
