The 2-1 scoreline make look like it was a close game, it wasn't. I came away from the Hull City game feeling gutted due to the injury time winner. Walking away from this one, i felt Wolves go exactly what they deserved, another defeat on the road. How the game only ended up 2-1 is a question i'm still asking myself now, Leeds United could and should have scored at least five or six.
Wolves actually started the game ok, passing the ball around, both Helan and Henry seeing plenty of the ball, both Saville and Henry having decent chances to score. Wolves have chased after Chris Wood for a few seasons now and how he didn't score last night, only he will know. He hit the post, had a decent free-kick go wide, put the ball into Ikeme's hands and also put another he put wide.
To go in at half-time still level was about as good as it got with the way the next 45+ minutes unfolded. Before the first Leeds goal, Matt Doherty had a decent run and effort that he couldn't keep down, after that though, it was all Leeds. I'm surprised it took as long as it did for them to take the lead. Some goals are worth seeing again, even one from the opposition, Bamba had so much time and space to chest and then strike the ball to give Ikeme no chance. One, soon became two, Diagouraga given too much time in the area to beat Ikeme, no more than Wolves deserved.
A response was needed, but Leeds could and should've score a few more, hitting the crossbar a couple of times. Wolves did eventually pull one back, Saville with the low drive, only mere consolation, but looking back now, how costly was Joe Mason's chance near to the end? he was through on goal, could easily have gone over under challenge, stayed on his feet, but couldn't beat the Leeds keeper. So 2-1 it finished, and no more than we deserved.
Looking back now and Wolves were no match for Leeds, overpowered in midfield, lacking of support for Sigurdarson, he isn't a goal threat and this needs to be addressed. I take nothing away from the first Leeds goal, but i can't say i'm happy with the manner in which the second goal was conceded.
My thoughts on last night's game.
