The last two games, two wins, three goals in each and a clean sheet, you can't ask for no more than that. An indifferent first half and Huddersfield with a couple of early chances, Carayol with the first chance of note that was turned away by Martinez. Bunn also with a decent chance. It needed something special for Wolves to take the lead and it was, a good interchange between McDonald and Henry, McDonald with the low drive and he put enough on the ball for it to be just enough away from the keeper and low into the corner.
I've often said when watching games you need breathing space when having a narrow lead. Chances are created, crosses put into the box and often you say to yourself, 'if only' or 'how close was that'. That was exactly what was going through my mind when Henry didn't connect properly with his header. It was good to see the second goal go in not long after Ojo was replaced by Byrne. Adam Le Fondre with the ball on the left and carried it on and put in a great ball for Afobe to score from close range. A goal for me that had been coming. Two really could have been three with Le Fondre breaking into the box. There was contact from the Huddersfield on Le Fondre. All the Wolves faithful expected a penalty award, even Steer appeared to start to walk off thinking he was going to receive a straight red. the ref deemed it a dive. I can't say i agree with it, but the ref is the one that counts. A third goal put the icing on the cake. Another quality piece of play from McDonald, the ball he put through to Afobe as good a pass you will. Afobe wasn't going to be stopped either. It's good to see him get amongst the goals again. The team are playing with confidence.
I think once the McDonald's goal went in the tempo of the player lifted. The second half and our play was a big improvement on the first, Martinez dealing with what Huddersfield had to offer. At the back, both full backs enjoying time on the ball and enjoying linking up with play. Danny Batth and Kourtney Hause dealing with the physical threat of Ismail Miller.Kevin McDonald looks back to something like since signing his new contract and complimented well by Jack Price alongside him. With Wolves in the last two games, it has been evident the link up play down both flanks and also the movement of both Afobe and Le Fondre in front of them. Play the way we are at the moment and goals have and will continue to flow.
