A good day out considering what was on show on the pitch. Kevin McDonald may have got Wolves out of jail with the equaliser, but for me it doesn't paper over the cracks. Plenty of time on the ball will show up in newspaper reports and their statistics, but again it's what you do with the ball and how creative you are with it.
Preston right from the off had a plan to hit long balls at both our left hand and right hand side of the defence. Golbourne was beaten numerous times in the air before the goal and Iorfa looked uneasy on his side. The Preston goal started with a long hopeful ball towards the left side of the Wolves defence, Hause beaten easily by Garner, the ball fell to Johnson and under no pressure at all was able to curl the ball low past Martinez. For me, this goal could and should've been dealt with, as soon as Garner headed the ball into the space for Johnson to run onto. There was no enough urgency to close the scorer down or enough pressure put on him.
At the time, Wolves cause probably helped by the Garner sending off, may be not intentional, but he caught Batth high all the same. I was then hoping Wolves could capitalise and push on and make the home side play deep in their own half. The loss of Garner really only meant they had lost a forward and it didn't really affect their shape. Wolves found Preston hard to break down for the rest of the half.
It was no big surprise to see van La Parra replaced, totally ineffective and did nothing to suggest he should start in the Fulham game. With Le Fondre on for the second half i was hoping for a lot more, chances created and at least the PNE keeper tested. But bar a Wallace effort and Le Fondre header that he put over, it didn't happen until after the second sending off. Time running out and McDonald scored his excellent goal, but again i enjoyed the goal, but not the performance.
As already stated, it's all very well having the possession and your midfield trying to create, but the movement up top wasn't good at all. PNE deserved their point and much more in my opinion with a great rearguard action. Martinez was the pick of the Wolves players for me, again making a couple of decent saves and had no chance with the goal.
The visit to Fulham on Tuesday is next up and if Wolves play like they did today, they will get hammered.
